Also known as Heavy-fruited Sedge, Long-awned Bracted Sedge
Heavy Sedge exhibits thin, green, grass-like leaves and grows in clumps. It is a good choice as a ground cover plant in the northern parts of Texas as it can handle drier soils and an either full sun or partial shade.The Prairie Chicken, Wild Turkey, Ring-Necked Pheasant, native sparrows, and winter songbirds eat the seeds or seedheads. Skipper and moth caterpillars also feed on the foliage.
