PRIDE OF WISCONSIN MUSKMELON | id:24961 | Cucumis melo | Ecologically grown | Annual | Open Pollinated | Heirloom
A standout full-size open-pollinated muskmelon with oval, salmon-fleshed 5–7 lb fruits, coarse netting, and a compact seed cavity. Exceptionally sweet, juicy, and smooth-textured with a clean finish and no musky aftertaste—edible right to the rind. Best enjoyed locally, as it can crack at the blossom end in wet seasons, making it poor for long-distance shipping. Introduced in 1923 as Queen of Colorado (St. Louis Seed Co.), later sold by Burpee and Eastern States Cooperative, nearly lost after hybrids but preserved by dedicated seed savers.
