Description from them: The French variety ‘Cardinale’ with traits to make enclosed heads rather than the expected open rosettes. Selection for red heading crisphead version of the original crisp leaf Batavian type. ‘Head Cardinal’ makes a full-sized head, larger than ‘Crispino’, not as tight as ‘Gildenstern.’ Very similar to ‘Red Iceberg’, which makes me wonder how closely related this is to ‘Cardinale.’ Leaf varieties are more cold tolerant. Vitamins+: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9+, C, K+, Ca, Fe, K, Mg+, Mn, P Companion plants: Alliums, Radish, Marigold, Broccoli, Beans, Beet, Carrot, Nasturtium, Dill, Corn, Cucurbits, Cilantro, Strawberries.
