Oakleaf hydrangeas love to settle down in organically rich, well-draining soil with medium moisture and can bask in both full sun and shade. They do best in moist soil and appreciate a layer of summer mulch to help keep that moisture around. Pruning is rather easy, generally just after flowering, though you can snip any winter-damaged stems in early spring.
