The flower is pollinated by only a single species of Yucca Moth, and many of the flowers go unpollinated. It reproduces only by seed, not by offsets as Agaves do. It is slow grower, but a very important plant and it flowers every year.
This plant is being over harvested in the wild to meet the demand as an ingredient in pet products, bagged soil and a vitamin type supplements.
