Often referred to as the Compass Plant, its unique leaves always align themselves in a north-south direction, exposing their broad, flat surfaces to as much sunlight as possible! From late spring to mid-summer, you can admire the beautiful, large, white daisy-like blooms that grow up and down the sturdy stem of this plant.
This long-living plant develops a magnificent taproot that can reach depths up to 15 feet, making it quite drought-tolerant once established. Thrives in alkaline soil that is sandy, gravely, or limestone/chalky. Native to prairies, plains, meadows, pastures, savannas, hillsides, slopes and roadsides exclusively (endemic) in North-Central Texas. Attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds.
