Common names include Water Hyssop, Herb-of-grace, Coastal Water-hyssop,Brahmi, Thyme-leafed Granola, and Indian Pennywort.
A perennial, creeping, mat-forming, aquatic or semi-aquatic herb native to wetland areas globally. Its native range in the U.S. includes coastal plains from Maryland to Texas and Oklahoma, Arizona, and California. Used in Ayurvedic medicine to help with various ailments, memory and learning. Typically blooms very early spring through summer and may bloom year round. Flowers are small and white, often tinged with blue or pink. Its small leaves are succulent, shiny, and evergreen.
A larval host plant for the White Peacock Butterfly.
Very adaptable in moist soils or submerged in several inches of water. A great choice for water gardens. A fast grower and makes a good ground cover that can take light foot traffic. Great spilling out of a planter that gets plenty of watering. Heat tolerant, but not drought tolerant at all.
