‘TRES FINE’ ENDIVE | id:24061 | Cichorium endivia | Ecologically grown | Annual | Open Pollinated
‘Tres Fine’ Endive is a type of chicory with fine, curly, yellow-green leaves and a mild, slightly bitter flavor. It is suitable for both spring and fall planting and can withstand a light frost. It thrives in cool weather and prefers well-draining soil. Avoid overwatering, as endive is susceptible to rot in waterlogged conditions. Water consistently to keep the soil evenly moist, but not saturated.
Vitamins+: K, B9+, B1+, K+, Mn+, P, Cu, Mg+
Companion plants: Carrot, Radish, Lettuce, Beet, Bean, Pea, Kale, Spinach, Corn.
Far from: Potato, Parsley, Celery, Cabbage.
Planting tip: Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring or start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Endive grows best in cooler °T and full sun.
Harvesting tip: Harvest outer leaves as needed once plants are established. For whole heads, cut at the base when firm. Blanching by tying outer leaves over the heart for 2-3 weeks before harvest reduces bitterness. Harvest entire plant before hard frost.
Storage tip: Keep in a plastic bag in the vegetable section of the freezer for up to 3 days.
