SWEET ANNIE ARTEMISIA | id:24073 | Artemisia annua | Certified Organic by Ecocert Canada | Annual/self-seeds | Open Pollinated | Heirloom
Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua) is a fragrant annual plant native to temperate Asia, growing up to six feet tall. It features feathery, fern-like foliage and small yellow flowers. Known for its strong, sweet scent, it’s excellent for dried crafts and arrangements, retaining both color and fragrance. Historically used as a natural air freshener and insect deterrent. Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Self-seeds readily. Seeds are very small, so indoor sowing is recommended 5-6 weeks before the last frost. Transplant after the danger of frost has passed. Direct sowing is possible after the last frost, covering seeds lightly. Thin plants to 12-24 inches apart. Harvest foliage once flower heads develop. This plant is deer resistant.
Vitamins+: B9, C, K
Companion plants: Rose, Rosemary, Sage, Lavender, Thyme, Mint, Hyssop, Marjoram, Fennel.
Planting tip: Seed stratification is required for 2-4 weeks. Sow 5-6 weeks before last frost.||May direct sow outside after last frost.
Harvesting tip: Harvest fresh or dried when active ingredients are at their peak, both before & during flower production. Potency diminishes rapidly once flowers wilt and during fruiting stage.
