Blooms in all shades of vivid red, pink, salmon, and white singles and doubles atop stems. Good as cut flowers if cut end is seared with a match. Flowers are delicate but plants are hardy. The name Shirley refers to the town in Surry, England, where the Rev. Henry Wilkes originally raised the variety. Plant height 2.5” tall.

Planting tip: Seed stratification is required for 2 weeks.||Poppies are started outdoors in early spring even when there is still a chance of frost. Transplant not recommended.
Harvesting tip: For seed harvest, cut seed pods when they rattle when shaken and have dried to a tan color. For fresh flowers, cut buds just before they open in the morning.
Storage tip: Store dried seeds in airtight containers in a cool, dry place. Dry pods completely before shaking out seeds.
