Roundhead Prairie Clover is low-maintenance, drought tolerant plant that, as a member of the legume family, adds nutrients to the soil. It blooms many small, spherical white flowers during June and July on the ends of its long, thin stems. A single plant often has many stems growing from a central root base. Its compound leaf may have 3 to 13 leaflets.
Its deep taproot is what gives it such great drought tolerance. In the wild, Roundhead Prairie Clover is often an indicator of healthy, high quality prairie or prairie remnants. When crushed, its foliage gives off a pleasant scent. Many pollinators visit its blooms.
