Our Pig and Hog Pasture Mix pasture includes alfalfa, clover, and grass. Varieties are selected to be compatible with the nutritional needs of pigs and their foraging behaviors.
Clovers provides a good spring forage and sometimes winter forage in warm climates. Clover will not produce as much forage per acre as alfalfa but the protein content of clover is higher than alfalfa, so both are included in our mix. Bluegrass and orchardgrass serve as a permanent pasture. Orchardgrass is hardy and can tolerate trampling. Birdsfoot Trefoil adds an additional legume but reduces the risk of bloating.
Pig and Hog Pasture can be grazed early, but make sure full establishment is achieved (about a year from planting). Practice rotational grazing.
This mix is adapted to all regions of the lower 48 states except the tropical areas of Florida and Texas. Pig and Hog Pasture Mix has a minimum purchase quantity of 15 pounds.
