Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Ha Ha Tonka’
Little Bluestem is a shortgrass native to North America. You’ll find it gracing prairies, fields, clearings, hills, limestone glades, roadsides, waste areas, and open woods.
One special cultivar is ‘Ha Ha Tonka,’ which features dense, fine hairs on the leaves that softly catch the light and create a halo effect. A very glowy grass! The foliage is blue green with segments of red-orange and grey. ‘Ha Ha Tonka’ has a rigid, upright habit.
Best grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions. Tolerates clay soils and occasional flooding. Performs well in poor soils. Good drought resistance once established. Tolerates high heat and humidity. Cut to the ground in late winter to early spring. Plant in full sun to avoid flopping late in the season.
