The Huisache is a multi-trunked tree or shrub that can reach heights of 15 to 20 feet. Its spiny branchlets are adorned with light green ferny leaves, each measuring less than 1/4 inch long. In the spring, it’s filled with small, fragrant orange-yellow flowers that gather in globose clusters, each showcasing many prominent stamens. The fruit, a striking reddish-brown to black woody pod, is rounded and tapers at both ends, typically ranging from 1 1/2 to 3 inches long.
