Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is a deciduous, productive shrub (typically 4–8 ft) prized for sweet summer berries, spring blossoms and attractive fall color—an excellent choice for Willamette Valley gardens when planted in acidic, well-drained soil with full sun to part shade. It requires consistently moist, acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5), regular mulch with acidic organic matter and annual pruning; plant at least two different varieties and choose low- to mid-chill cultivars for our mild winters to ensure reliable pollination and the best yields.
