Bouquets of perfectly symmetrical, moderately fragrant blooms start off cream and mature to ivory white with a yellow base. Four inches wide, each one opens from an attractive pointed ovoid bud to reveal 20 to 25 softly colored petals that emit a fruity perfume. Some gardeners have even said these flowers remind them of apple blossoms, with their slightly ruffled satiny petals and frilly golden centers.
Proudly introduced by Jackson & Perkins, Grand Prize won top honors in Europe. Growing to 3 to 4 feet feet high and wide, it cloaks itself in healthy glossy, dark green leaves that emerge maroon. And its overall excellent garden performance makes it an exceptional selection for a hedge or mixed borders. And the fact that it is rather compact means it’s ideal for large containers as well.
