Douglas Crested Wheatgrass is a cool season perennial bunchgrass that is long-lived with a deep root system. It starts growth in early spring and flowers in late spring. Requires a minimum of 13-14 inches of annual precipitation. It produces less forage than other cultivars, but is leafier and remains green longer into the growing season suggesting improved forage preference and improved fire resistance. It is used extensively for reclamation, stabilization and erosion control. It prefers well drained soils, it is not adapted to poorly-drained soils or heavy clay soils.
