An important plant in the fall during butterfly and hummingbird migrations. A favorite of the Monarch butterflies. An upright, clump-forming perennial with dense wands of pink to purple flowers. Strong roots grow down as deep as 16 feet, and will easily cling to any poor, infertile, well-drained soil. Also makes a good cut flower. It is one of our most attractive late summer to fall bloomers across Texas.
Thrives in full sun. Tolerant of alkaline soils, drought, and summer heat. The most drought tolerant of the liatris once established. They do best in the company of other plants that don’t like extra water. Cut make to 3″ after the first hard freeze.
