Product Description
Delphinium grandiflorum ‘Blue Butterfly’ (30)ct Flat
Common Name: Delphinium-Dwarf, Siberian larkspur.
Zone: 3 to 7.
Full Sun to part shade.
Height: 14 inches tall, spread 12 inches.
Moderate growth, herbaceous perennial clump-forming plant.
Dwarf compact Delphinium is only 14 inches and forms mounds of well-branched foliage. The 1.5 inch, deep blue blooms puts on a spectacular flower show over the lacy leaves from early summer to fall.
Delphiniums grow best in rich fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil, with a basic pH and protection from wind. Add lime to acidic soil and fertilize regularly, preferably with compost or manure. When planting, be sure to set the crown at or above soil level to avoid rot. Delphiniums can be grown in partial shade, though full sun may help to prevent powdery mildew.
These perennials tend to be short-lived and often start to lose their vigor after 2 to 3 years. Expect to replant them every few years or propagate new plants from basal cuttings of the original specimens. ‘Blue Butterfly’ sometimes self-seeds, especially in cool-summer regions.
