Echinacea ‘Cheyenne Spirit’

In its first year, you’ll find an array of lovely bloom colors to choose from, including vibrant purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, cream, and white ray flowers that beautifully contrast with brown cones. This wonderful plant typically grows to a height of 2 to 2.5 feet and spreads 1 to 2 feet wide, making it a great addition to your garden.

These coneflowers usually grace our gardens with blooms from June to August, and occasionally, you might see some sporadic blooms later in the year. Not only do butterflies adore them, but other insects are also drawn to their beauty! The flowers can be enjoyed fresh or dried, and it’s a treat to see the dead flowers standing upright until winter. If you choose to leave the flower heads on, you may even be rewarded with visits from goldfinches and other birds who enjoy the blackened cones.

The Cheyenne Spirit thrives in average soils with dry to medium moisture levels and appreciates well-drained conditions, whether in full sun or partial shade. However, it truly flourishes in full sun! This adaptable plant is tough, as it can tolerate drought, heat, humidity, and even poor soil conditions. To keep your plants happy, divide the clumps when they become overcrowded, about every four years. They rebloom effortlessly without the need for deadheading, but removing spent flowers promptly will encourage continued blooms and enhance their overall appearance.
