Butterfly Bush (Buddleia x) bears long, fragrant flower clusters in purple, pink, white or yellow from summer into fall, attracting butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. In the Willamette Valley it prefers full sun and well-drained soil, is drought-tolerant once established, grows 4-12 ft depending on cultivar and responds to hard pruning in late winter or light deadheading after bloom—remove seedheads or choose sterile cultivars to limit self-seeding.
