A biennial species of Dianthus, Sweet William is native to Southern Europe but is now grown worldwide as a popular ornamental garden plant and cut flower. Related to Carnations, Sweet William also come in a variety of colors and patterns, though their flowers grow in clusters of individual blooms, they still offer the signature spicy, clove-like fragrance that many associate with the related Carnations. Sweet William thrive in sun or partial shade in most regions and are generally easy to grow.
