The Desert Willow is an exquisite tree that requires little care and enhances the beauty of southwestern landscapes year-round. Even in winter, when it’s bare, the tree provides an appealing architectural shape. Its abundant, fragrant, orchid-like flowers throughout the year attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
The ‘Bubba’ cultivar is celebrated for its durability and strength. It tolerates high temperatures, drought, and cold weather, with roots that spread rapidly. Compared to other desert willow cultivars, this tree features broader and greener linear leaves, contributing to a fuller look. Although it blooms for an extended period, ‘Bubba’ produces fewer seed pods than other types. From afar, its flowers appear burgundy; up close, they show a distinct dark pink upper half and a deep burgundy lower half, accented by bright yellow guidelines along the throat to attract pollinators.
