Product Description
APHIDIUSforce™ C is a biological aphid control built around Aphidius colemani, a parasitoid wasp that specializes in the smaller pest aphids. Its exceptional hunting behavior lets it detect and parasitize developing aphid hot spots even at low prey density, which makes it a strong preventative tool in greenhouses, indoor facilities, fields, and gardens. Each aphid it parasitizes becomes a bronze mummy, and the wasp pairs especially well with banker plants for season-long aphid control.
What it targets
- Green Peach Aphid (Myzus persicae)
- Melon/Cotton Aphid (Aphis gossypii)
- Black Bean Aphid (Aphis fabae)
- Cannabis Aphid (Phorodon cannabis)
Crops it supports
Ornamentals, hemp/cannabis, vegetable crops, soft fruits, and tree nurseries — in greenhouses, indoor facilities, fields, and gardens.
How Aphidius colemani controls aphids
Female wasps hunt for aphids by sensing the odor of infested plants and the aphid’s honeydew secretions. Once she finds aphids, the female touches them with her antennae to confirm they are an appropriate species, then uses her ovipositor to insert a single egg inside the host. When the egg hatches, the larva eats the aphid from the inside, killing it 7 to 10 days later. The larva then spins a cocoon and the aphid turns into a bronze-colored mummy. The wasp pupates for 7 to 10 days before emerging as an adult, chewing a round exit hole out of the back of the aphid. Each female can lay up to 300 eggs, most of them during the first four days of adulthood. Aphidius colemani is particularly effective when used with banker plants.
