American Royal Fern is a deciduous fern native to eastern North America. It grows bright green fronds that reach around 18″ wide and up to 6′ long, sprouting out of a rootstock with deep roots that is elevated about 2″-4″ off the ground. Golden fruiting pinnae rise slightly above the sterile fronds.
American Royal Fern prefers bright, indirect light and moist, well drained soil. It grows in sandy, loamy, loamy clay, and calcareous soil. It can tolerate higher amounts of sun if planted in standing or slowly moving water. It performs well in the ground, in pots, and in hanging baskets.
